TED X TEDx
WHAT'S TEDx?
x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of locally organized and self-led events that bring people together to share a similar experience to TED. At a TEDx event, TED Talk videos and live speakers are combined to initiate deep connections and discussions. These independently organized events are called TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general support to the TEDx program, but TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).
TEDxIUCS
The TEDxIUCS was created by Nuno Almeida, a passionate student deeply interested in science, health, and research. Recognizing the value of TED's mission in sharing inspiring ideas, Nuno took the initiative to establish a local TEDx event at his institution, IUCS-CESPU.
Motivated by the enthusiasm to disseminate knowledge and promote intellectual growth, Nuno saw TEDx as an ideal platform to bring together like-minded individuals who share his passion for science, health, and research. By organizing TEDxIUCS, his goal was to create an environment where ideas could be exchanged, innovative concepts explored, and inspiring stories shared.
Nuno's dedication and vision for TEDxIUCS led him to assemble a team of enthusiastic volunteers who shared his passion and supported his mission. Together, they worked tirelessly to curate a diverse group of speakers who could provide unique perspectives, insights, and experiences related to the fields of science, health, and research.
TED conferences
TED conferences are events organized by a non-profit organization called TED, with the aim of spreading valuable ideas. Initially started in California as a four-day conference 30 years ago, TED has expanded its mission through various initiatives. The organization hosts two annual conferences, where renowned thinkers and doers are invited to deliver concise talks of 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are available for free online at TED.com. Prominent speakers at TED events include influential figures like Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan, and Daniel Kahneman.
The main TED conference takes place in Vancouver, Canada, during the spring, while the TEDGlobal conference occurred in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in October 2014. TED has a strong online presence through its website, TED.com, where new talks are regularly made available. They also have initiatives like the Open Translation Project, which involves volunteers from around the world in translating and transcribing the talks, and the TED-Ed educational program. TED created the TED Prize, an annual award that supports individuals dedicated to making positive changes in the world by helping them turn their ideas into action. Additionally, TEDx supports local events organized by individuals or groups following the global TED format. The TED Fellows program assists innovative individuals worldwide in amplifying the impact of their notable projects and activities.
